Frequency and Spark Timing Effects on Thrust for Pulse Detonation Engine

An experimental study was performed on an ethylene/oxygen/air pulse detonation engine to examine the effect of frequency and spark delay time thrust output efficiency. Reactants were mixed in a stainless-steel combustion chamber at frequencies ranging from 1 40 Hz. Dynamic pressure measurements recorded throughout system over testing interval determine exhaust velocities. Efficiency evaluated based average velocity. Results thrust, frequency, Chapman–Jouguet velocities analyzed. It observed that increased exponentially with increase frequency. For 2 ms, maximum efficiency achieved for given frequencies. As beyond 6 became erratic, pulses misfiring, decrease until no occurred 8 ms.
